But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.

The Big Bad Two-Eight

So today was my birthday. Birthdays are pretty anti-climactic these days...Not like when you were 5 and got to go to kindergarten. At 10 and were finally into double digits and when you turn 11 you can no longer count your age on just two hands. 16 is a big one of course. At 18 you're an "adult" and can vote (this doesn't matter to everyone, but I thought it was pretty cool). At 20 you're no longer a teenager, 21 you're finally completely legal, and at 22 many of us graduated from college. After 22 though, you're basically just looking down the pipe towards that senior citizen discount. Not that will be cool.

In all reality though, all joking aside, I loved my birthday today. There was no glitz, no parties, no huge surprises, no cake with 28 candles (although I did split a brownie dessert with the fam at dinner tonight). But it was a fabulous day. I got to spend it with two of my favorite people: my little Joy Boy and my new Little Lovebug. At the end of the day my sweet husband and his parents took me to a nice dinner. And I truly understand just how lucky I am to be here to celebrate my 28th birthday and all of the birthdays God chooses to bless me with. So bring on the Ageless Essentials night cream, my one gray hair, and the Osteo Biflex for my aching knees. I gladly take them like a badge of honor. :)

Here is a list of a few of the things that made my birthday great:

  1. Both kids slept in until 8:30. What?? Yes, 8:30.
  2. At 9 am Jack wanted me to open my presents. When we tore away the paper on the one from Kelly, he got all excited and looked up at me and said, "Mom, you got a big brown box!!"
  3. Jack kept asking me all week if he could "come" to my birthday. I explained to him that yes, he could come, because he is with me every day, which means he's with me on everyone's birthday-including my own. He said "You're not having a party?" I said no. He said, "Don't you want lots of presents??"
  4. I got to talk to Jack about God today. His little brain is trying to understand where God is, and how he can be in more than one place at once, and that God can do anything he wants to do. "Mom, God can be on the sun?? But the sun is made of fire."
  5. I was so proud of Jack today. He got Memory from my mother-in-law for Christmas and we opened it today and played a few games. He was really good! We almost tied once! (Maybe that just means I'm really bad.)
  6. At the end of the day when I was getting the kids out of the car in the garage I thanked Jack for coming to dinner with me for my birthday. He said "Sure! I had fun with you on your birthday Mom!" Melts my heart! Haha and it kills me when he calls me Mom or Momma. Like, what happened to "Mommy" anyway. And how old are you, 8?
  7. Sarah absolutely smiled at me today. Best birthday present she could have given me!
  8. Jason said my present is some time away at the spa for a massage. YES, thank you sweet husband!!
