I can't sleep. I've been sleeping off and on for 20 hours, and I'm wide awake now...so I'll blog instead! I got here to The Woman's Hospital of Texas at 4:50 yesterday morning to check in for my 7:30 surgery. I just love this place. All they deal with are women and their "issues," so they really know their stuff. So if anyone within a reasonable driving distance of Houston needs an OB/GYN, I have the girl for you.
My surgery went well yesterday. It was on the longer side of the time window they gave us, at about 2 hours. Apparently my ovary was a bear and didn't want to come out of there! My cyst was the size of a smallish pancake and was wrapped around the ovary, so she had to go ahead and take the right ovary and the tube. But she's assured us that there's no need to worry, my left ovary will compensate and produce all the hormone I need, so no menopause symptoms to worry about. Thank the Lord.
I'm not able to eat solid foods yet. Clear liquids only. So yesterday afternoon I had a grape Popsicle, but thanks to the anesthesia induced nausea, it came back a few minutes later. So I got more Zofran and slept some more. When the nurse came just now to change my IV bag and saw I was awake, she brought me some jello, chicken broth, and cranberry juice. By now I am SO hungry (and finally not nauseated). I ate it all. Um, more jello please??
I am quite amused by the compliments you get when you're in the hospital. You look like crap, so they can't tell you that you look pretty without being called on their bluff. So they think of other things. Like your manicure. Your pleasant attitude. Your huge veins (which in here is a big deal), your urine output (also a big deal), and your ability to pass gas (you guessed it, a big deal). They're all so sweet, and it makes me laugh. Which hurts to do...
So if all goes well I should go home sometime tomorrow. And wouldn't you know it, Sweet Sarah got a fever yesterday and has the beginnings of an ear infection (again). Blaine and Michele are helping us with the kids, and Nana had to take her to the doctor for a prescription (thanks Nana!). So between the two of us, Daddy might have his hands full. He's pulling Super Dad duty this weekend, and he's doing a great job!
I can not express to you how amazingly grateful I am that God gave Jason and I have the desire to be parents so early in our marriage, and that after the accident I had two healthy ovaries to make eggs and have Sweet Sarah. Isn't it amazing how he knows best?? So very grateful.
