Until March I had a spotless driving record. No speeding tickets, no parking tickets, nothing. But in March I got my first speeding ticket. Yes, I'm here admitting it....I'm a law breaker. And the story behind it is great! I would have mentioned this sooner, but as you know there has been quite a lot going on here, so I had tons of other more important things to post. So here's the story...
It was March 9, the day of the embryo transfer. Can you believe it, the day of the transfer?! If you'll remember from the post when I first announced we were expecting, Rachel had to drink a lot of water the day of the transfer so her bladder was full for the procedure. So, there we are, in my car heading from her apartment to the doctor's office (about a 35 minute drive), and we decide to stop at Starbucks for coffee and a venti glass of water. I exit for the Starbucks at 59 and 1960 just a few miles after leaving the apartment. Little did I know that the access roads in that part of Humble are a speed trap (well, at one time I did know it, when I lived there, but by March 9 I had apparently forgotten). So in the rear-view I see lights go on and I'm like "great, we're gonna be late for the appointment!" As I watch the cop in the mirror he moves over a lane and rides up behind the Expedition that is in the lane to my left, so naturally I think I'm off the hook. He's pulling over the other guy--yay! Oh no. He's actually pulling us both over. So he has us park in the mall parking lot and proceeds to write both drivers a ticket for speeding on the access road. I had just exited and was still going 65, but the access road has a limit of 40. To his credit, the cop was nice enough to drop my speed down to 60 in a 40 so I could still do defensive driving. Anyway, there we are in the mall parking lot, just a few hundred yards from Starbucks. The cop has my license and is writing on his clipboard. He stops and looks in the car at the two of us and asks "So where are you headed this morning?" To which I replied "To hopefully get her pregnant with my baby." He looks a little blank for a minute and says "....oh....."
So after the fiasco of getting my first ticket on the day our sister-in-law is to be impregnated with our baby, we finally make it to Starbucks. Through the window we watch as the same cop pulls over another car on that same access road, not 10 minutes after he had ticketed us. I wonder where the driver of that car was headed. :)
